LSUS Black Box Theatre

The LSUS Dept. of Communications is committed to enriching the Ark-La-Tex region with unique and powerful plays!

                                                                LSUS Theatre
                                 Robert Alford, Director
                                 Mary Jarzabek, Associate Director
Pruitt Taylor Vince, Artist in Residence

We have presented 16 plays since 2000: Walking with a Panther, The Woolgatherer, East Texas Hot Links, Murder at the Banquet, Passing, The Johnstown Vindicator, Romeo and Juliet, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, The First Breeze of Summer, Summer Dreams, A Lesson Before Dying, Summers in Suffolk, The Waiting Room, Electra and A Raisin in the Sun

Our upcoming 9 play season is our most ambitious ever: an encore production of East Texas Hot Links by Eugene Lee, Bulrusher, a play with music by Eisa Davis, Copenhagen by Michael Frayn, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl, Family Planning by Julia Edwards, Blackbird by David Harrower, Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang and Tidewater by Sheri Bailey. Bulrusher and East Texas Hot Links will both be featured as part of the first Southern Black Theatre Festival to take place in Shreveport this fall. We will also be presenting At Your Own Risk, a 6 play staged reading series in partnership with Collaborations.

A 2007-2008 Louisiana Board of Regents grant allowed us to create a permanent, flexible performing and rehearsal space, the LSUS Black Box Theatre. The Black Box Theatre was established because LSUS lacked a space solely dedicated to theater. With this space and a $32,000 state grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents, the university is able to expand its theater season.

Season Tickets are AVAILABLE for $100 to see all 9 plays!!!
